The Chameleon NIM-6 module is used to interface with LonTalk networks. The module contains two microprocessors:
- The main NIM-7 module processor, and
- The Neuron co-processor
The main NIM-6 microprocessor executes the installed schema, interacts with other Chameleon modules, and manages an interprocessor link to communicate with a Neuron co-processor. The Neuron co-processor is a programmable device (using the Echelon tools and Neuron C) that interfaces with the LonTalk network and responds to requests from main processor through the inter-processor link.
As such, from a Design Pad programming perspective, the LonTalk interface needs to configure the inter-processor communication channel, but does not directly specify the LonTalk network communication (this is done on the Neuron). The Design Pad configuration involves defining data tags and reading/writing the data associated with those tags.
