This section takes you through a step by step network addition, enable and assign sequence to establish connectivity between all the PROFIBUS devices added to a Workspace. Note that the PROFIBUS network establishment follows many of the same steps as the FairNET network creation procedure described in section 9.2.1.

You must first create the physical PROFIBUS network in the workspace. Left click on the Network View tab, then right click on Networks. Left click on Add Network to bring up the dialog in Figure 9.29. Name the new network. Select RS-485 from the Physical layer type dropdown by left clicking. Next Select Protocol type as PROFIBUS from the lower dropdown list, left clicking on it as well. Press OK to create the new network.

Now add a PROFIBUS networking interface module, a NIM-7, to a Hardware Interface File (Figure 9.30). Open the Hardware Interface File, Left click on Controllers, hover over Chameleon to display the module list, and left click on PROFIBUS Network Interface(NIM-7) to add the module to the current node.

Next, enable the device to use the PROFIBUS protocol by right clicking on the NIM-7 in the Hardware Interface File and left clicking on Module Properties. Left click on the lower PROFIBUS entry to bring up the dialog in Figure 9.31. The protocol should already be enabled; left click on the check box if it is not.

After enabling the protocol on the module you must assign it to a specific network. In the File view of the Workspace window, right click on the NIM-7 and left click on Assign Network. The dialog in Figure 9.32 appears. Left click to list the available networks and then left click on the network name.

Once an available PROFIBUS network is selected from the drop down list, the network appears in the Logical Networks list with an empty check box. Left click to check the box to link the NIM-7 to that particular PROFIBUS network. Figure 9.33 shows the dialog after the network is assigned.
After a network is assigned to the module its name appears in the list of devices using that logical network in the Network view (Figure 9.34).

Note that if you copy an HWI file, rename the copy and add the newly named HWI file to the workspace, it will carry its master or slave network configuration information with it.

Now it's time to configure the slave I/O and the masters on the PROFIBUS network.
