The first step in network configuration is associating an XML file with the SNMP network so its structure definitions are accessible by the Design Pad operators. Right click on the SNMP logical network in the Network view and select Link Structure Libraries as in Figure 9.127. Use the resulting dialog to add one or more XML libraries by navigating to their files (Figure 9.128). Press Apply and expand the structure definitions which appear on the right.

Now you can add SNMP Receiver operators to the schema from Generic Hardware Operators->Networking->SNMP. Remember to define your Receivers before any broadcasters. Specify which structure represents the data to be received by the operator from the SNMP device via the operator's Properties dropdown (Figure 9.129).

Decompose the received data into a structure matching the one specified in the receiver operator's properties by adding a decompose operator to the schema and selecting that same structure in the decompose operator Properties dialog (Figure 9.130).

Broadcasting SNMP data works the opposite way. Compose the data to be sent into a structure chosen from the properties dialog (Figure 9.131). Wire the compose operator to the SNMP broadcast operator linked via its Properties to the same structure (Figure 9.132).

The next step is to link the broadcast and receive operators to hardware. Right click on an operator and select Connect To Hardware (Figure 9.133). The resulting dialog has a dropdown listing the available SNMP agents eligible for data transmission (Figure 9.134). Select the agent this operator broadcasts to or receives data from.

Once all of the hardware connections are complete the schema(s) can be simulated. The SNMP agent communicating with the Fairmount Automation hardware must be physically connected to the module for simulated message traffic to take place.
