Configuring The EtherNet/IP Properties

 Configuring and Adding Object Instances

If you are using EtherNet/IP Object operators and acting in the role of a server, you will have provided EIPCLASS definitions within the XML descriptions, and will also need to create instances of the classes.

Double cliking on the class, for example C66_I1, a new instance entry will be created.  Specify the instance number, usually 1, and provide a symbolic name for entry that will be referenced when configuring the EtherNet/IP Object operators.  In the example above, and Instance #1 has been created for Class 65 and Class 66, with the symbolic names "Class 65 Object" and "Class 66 Object" respectively.

Multicast Settings

In the workspace under "ETHERNET IP", right clink and select properties, then select EtherNet/IP Multicast Settings.  The following dialog will be presented:

Select the Interface you would like to modify.

TTL for Multicasts - (Time To Live) This parameter controls the number of router hops a broadcast will traverse before being discarded.  Each time a router receives a multicast packet it decrements the TTL value in the packet.  Once it reaches zero, the packet is destroyed and not forwarded.  This is used to control the scope of transmission for multicasts, and to ensure that should a circular routing pattern ever occur it would eventual be discarded and not circulate endlessly in the network.  This value should be no higher than is needed to reach the peer of the interface you are configuring.  If the peer exists on the same IP subnetwork as this interface, the value of one should be adequate, otherwise consider the number of router hops to the peer and adjust this upward accordingly.

Use Default Multicast Address - when checked, the multicast address range is determined from the select devices IP address.  When unchecked, you may specify the start address of a restricted range of addresses.

Start Address - when Use Default Multicast Address is not checked, you may specify the starting address for multicast addresses.

Use Single Address For All Connections - When checked, all connections will use a single multicast address.

Number of Addresses - When Use Single Address For All Connections is not checked, you may specify a number of addresses, upward from the starting address, that will be used for multicasts.
