To determine the amount of power required for a Chameleon node:

Determine the maximum power required by the modules in the node

PCM-1 (current):

  • 3.9W + 0.03 W/mA * (current draw from the auxiliary output source including analog outputs)

PCM-1 REV E (obsolete):

  • 3.07W + 0.03 W/mA * (current draw from the auxiliary output source including analog outputs)

AIN-1:

  • 3.9W + 0.03 W/mA * (current draw from the auxiliary output).

ASM-1:

  • 2.5W

DIN-1:

  • 1.3W + 0.03 W/mA * (current draw from the auxiliary output source)

DAM-1 or 2 (ISO or BK):

  • 1.3W + 0.03 W/mA * (current draw from the auxiliary output source) + 0.05W/relay * (number of relays being used)

NIM-1, NIM-3, or NIM-4:

  • 2.8W

NIM-2:

  • 4.67W + 0.24W/copper-port * (number of copper ports) + 1.37W/Fiber-port * (number of Fiber-Optic Ports) + 0.8W/Fail-over * (1 for Fail-over Relay Option, 0 otherwise)

NIM-6:

  • 3W

NIM-7:

  • 4W

UCM-1, UCM-2, UCM-2AMI, or UCM-2SVI:

  • 0.1W (this does not include any custom additions to the module)

Calculate the power used by the power supply

AC Power Supply Module

  • ACP-1 current draw (RMS amps) at 120VAC = 0.01764 * power required by other modules + 0.032

Note: To calculate VA would you would multiply the RMS Amps (from above) times 120VAC.

DC Power Supply Module

  • DCP-1 current draw (DC amps) = (power required by other modules + 6) / input voltage.

Note: This is for 24VDC input power. As input voltage goes down, the 6 in that equation goes up. As input voltage goes up, the 6 in that equation goes down.

Note2: There is a reduction of allowable output power for the DCP-1 that varies with input voltage / maximum ambient operating temperature / and EMI filters on the wiring hub. At 65C maximum operating temperature and EMI filters on the DCP-1 wiring hub, the following input voltage vs. maximum output power should be used:

  • 24V to 60V input: 25 Watt output
  • 15V to 24V input: 20 Watt output
  • 10V to 15V input: 12 Watt output
