The UCM-2_NB is used to split a Chameleon Node into two physically separate segments but keeps them electrically and logically a single node.
The distance between the two UCM-2_NB modules is limited by backplane signal quality and the cable length should be 10 feet or less. It is recommended that a Backplane Termination cable Assembly, FA P/N: 01020-150, be installed at the logical ends of each node (i.e. the physical ends that are not the UCM-2BN modules).
Shielded CAT-5E (for example LSC50SW-4 or M24643/59-04UO) is adequate to wire most signals between the two segments as follows:
- Connect BP-1 to BP-10 (terminal numbers 13-17 and 19-23) to the terminal of the same name/number in the partner UCM-2NB.
- The signals BP-3 and BP-8 (terminal numbers 15 and 21) should be connected using one twisted pair of the CAT-5E cable.
For the last two signals, GND and +25.5V, the wiring requirements vary with cable length between the two UCM-2NB modules and power used by the node. Segments under 5 feet and with a 25W or less power draw (i.e. less then two non-redundant supplies) can use shielded CAT-5E cable. Segments between 5 feet and 10 feet or nodes requiring greater then 25W of power (i.e. two or more non-redundant supplies) should use 16 AWG stranded wire in a shielded cable.
