Configuring Hardware Properties and Resources

The preceding sections describe how to create hardware interface and schema documents, how to link these documents together, and how to associate schema document hardware operators to module hardware resources in the hardware interface file(s). This section describes how hardware resources are configured. For example, the analog input channels of a Chameleon Process Control Module (PCM-1) can measure current, voltage, and resistance, and interface to RTD sensors.

To configure a hardware resource, right click on the desired module in the hardware interface document and select the Module or Hardware Properties item from the drop-down menu. Then select the desired resource from the tree control in the left sub-window as shown in Figure 4.18. Each resource type has a set of properties that can be configured. For example, select the "AIn1" resource from the tree control. Design Pad G4 will display the corresponding characteristics and user-configurable properties (as shown in Figure 4.18). As you cycle through the different resources, the dialog contents will change to display the relevant characteristics and properties of the selected resource.

The figure below shows how to set module security passwords and when to request them. Two different access levels may be configured so different operators have different privileges. The check boxes specify when the passwords will be requested

The last choice on the properties list allows a simulation setup to be read from a file. The filename may be browsed for via a Windows dialog.
